What is collagen, and can you rebuild it?

Collagen is the protein that keeps skin firm and smooth. Here's why we lose it, and the treatments that help your skin make more.

01

Your skin's scaffolding

Collagen holds skin up and keeps it firm and smooth. When it thins, we see fine lines, crepey texture and sagging.

02

Why we lose it

From our mid-20s, production slows a little every year. Sun exposure, which we have plenty of in Southern Utah, breaks it down faster.

03

How to rebuild it

Controlled micro-injury and heat signal your skin to make more of its own collagen. That's how Morpheus8, microneedling and Forma work.

04

Protect what you build

Daily SPF is the single best thing you can do to keep the collagen you have.

IPL or chemical peel: which one is right for you?

Both can fade sun spots, but they work very differently. Here's how to choose.

01

IPL targets pigment and redness

Light energy is absorbed by brown spots and broken capillaries. Spots darken, then flake away over about a week. Little downtime.

02

Peels resurface the whole skin

A chemical peel brightens tone and texture across the whole face, and helps with breakouts and dullness.

03

Melasma is different

Melasma usually responds better to a carefully chosen peel than to IPL.

04

Not sure?

That's what a consultation is for. Jessica will look at your skin and recommend the right one.

How to prepare for laser hair removal

Four simple rules that make your treatment more comfortable and more effective.

01

Shave the day before

The laser targets the root, so the hair on top should be gone.

02

No waxing or plucking for about 4 weeks

Those remove the root the laser needs to find.

03

Skip the tan for 2 weeks

No sunbathing or self-tanner before your appointment.

04

Come clean

No deodorant, lotion or oils on the area the day of your treatment.

Morpheus8 aftercare: the first 72 hours

What to do (and skip) after your treatment for the best possible results.

01

Hands off

No makeup for 24 hours, and don't pick or scrub.

02

Gentle only

Use a mild cleanser and the post-care Jessica sends home with you.

03

Skip the sweat

No workouts, hot tubs or saunas for 48 hours.

04

SPF, always

Your new skin is extra sensitive to the sun.
